The Technical University of Kenya conducted elections on Thursday, August 13 and changed its student leadership by notably voting out majority of those who served in any outgoing regime.
With the Students Association of The Technical University (SATUK) changing its name to the Students Organisation of the Technical University of Kenya (SOTUK), Brian Reeves Obare becomes the first SOTUK president having mauled his closest competitors Mark Oroko Oyieyo and Karuri Joseph in the president's race.
Reeves who initially lost to Mark Oroko in the Secretary General post during the previous elections astoundingly gathered enough support to beat the outgoing Secretary General by over 500 votes.
Reeves garnered 2 520 votes followed by Karuri Joseph Chege with 1126 votes while Oroko came third with 695 votes.
Josephine Valerie Marani who was most probably the only student leader who served in the previous Union was voted in as the first Deputy President of SOTUK having garnered 1448 votes.
Brian Kandie and Gloria Wanja Nthiga came second and third with 1143 and 675 votes respectively.
Anampiu Jack Kobia beat his immediate competitors Charles Cheruiyot Sang and Moses Musa to clinch the much-coveted Secretary General post.
Kobia got 1000 votes followed by Sang (955) and Moses (950).
Other posts were taken by Pharis Jane (Academic Secretary), Nevil Odoyo Odhiambo (Constitutional Affairs Secretary), Janet Wanjiru Mwangi (Finance Secretary), Bosco Mawira John (Social Welfare Secretary), Rose Adongo (Gender Secretary) and Claudias Oduor Brian (Sports Secretary).
