The donations were issued during the International Day for Persons with disabilities celebrations in Machakos town on Saturday.

The county marked the event a day earlier due to the CECAFA Games scheduled to take off at the County’s Kenyatta Stadium on Sunday.

The International Day for persons with disabilities is marked on December 3 annually across the world.

Tecno also donated footballs and T-shirts to the residents.

The company’s project manager Kilonzo Mumo said the donations were out of Corporate Social Responsibility as a way of giving back to the community.

Mumo addressed the press during the event at Mulu Mutisya Gardens.

“These donations are part of Tecno’s CSR activities, we have issued such donations to thousands of people living with disabilities in many counties across the country,” said Mumo.

He said people living with various disabilities need to be well integrated into the society.

Mumo said Machakos County has lots of disabled people who need to be socio-economically supported.

“Machakos County has lots of people living with disabilities, some of them have untapped talents. They need more support from the county government and co-operate companies,” said Mumo.

“Kila mtu ajue ulemavu siyo umaskini ama ugonjwa, disability is not inability but a condition,” added Mumo.

He said Tecno had reserved job opportunities for people living with disabilities especially in its Sales and Marketing departments.

“We want to engage them as a company so long as they qualify for the positions they are interested to serve in at Tecno, let those living with disabilities seek employment in the firm,” said Mumo.

“There are lots of opportunities, talents pay,” added he.

Mumo said Tecno will hold sitting ball competitions for the disabled in 2018.
