The chief made the remarks after solving a case in which a youth had slapped an old woman in Kiaibabu  sub location.

Alleged, Monica Wangeci, 19, slapped Margaret Nduta, 82, after the elderly woman found the teen bathing in a river.

The chief said that it was shameful for the youth to behave arrogantly.

“It is a shame to disrespect the elderly. It is very bad also,” said the chief.

Nduta said that she was going to the river to fetch water when the teen came over to her and slapped twice saying, ‘ondoa utoto hapa’.

The chief warned the youth that strict measures would be taken against them if they do not change their character and urged them to uphold the dignity of the elderly.

Kamau said that the eroding of cultural values in the society is increasing and blamed the parents for not taking their roles.

“I have to blame parents for abandoning their roles in modelling the youth. Parents have no time to interact with their children,” said the chief.

The chief also blamed modernisation especially the social media which he said is flooded with bad information.

After mediating the case, the chief ordered the teen’s family to pay Sh5,000 to the old woman  which the family agreed as a compensation.
