A teenage boy was lynched by angry residents over theft allegations at Mai Mahiu trading center on Thursday.

According to an eye witness, the victim was allegedly caught red-handed stealing from a warehouse in town in the unfortunate incidence.

Confirming the incident, Naivasha Deputy Police boss Agnes Amojong said that investigations are ongoing to establish the events leading to the lynching.

The officer said that the suspect allegedly broke into the house and stole electronic goods and unknown amount of money in the break in.

“We are investigating the incident to establish the truth of the matter”, she said. The police boss also warned members of the public against lynching suspects and instead asked them to allow the police do their work.

Residents claimed that the suspect is a known member of a gang that has been terrorizing the area in the past two weeks.

Amos Chigitia, a resident stated that cases of robberies are on the rise in the area and that they are being conducted by teenagers.

He asked the police to intervene and restore order by arresting and prosecuting criminals in the area.

At least three people have been lynched by angry mob over robbery allegations in the area in the past three months.
