Teenage Girls from Athi River have been advised to be careful not to get into trouble during this December festive holiday.
Speaking during a girl-child empowerment programme in Athi River on Thursday, Tears of Hope Director Judith Muema said the girl child especially those in their teen years were vulnerable this season.
She said the girls were prone to being lured by irresponsible and inhumane elderly men to engage in risky sexual activities.
Muema said there were higher chances for the girls to get to the traps due to high levels of poverty in the region that she attributed to the increasing levels of prostitution in the region.
According to her, those teenage girls who had just sat their class eight and form four Kenya National Examinations were the most targeted groups of girls by male perpetrators.
She cautioned the girls against giving in to men requests if approached arguing it was not the right time to engage in sexual activities.
Muema said the girls were at risk of contracting Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV and getting pregnant if they engaged with the men whom she referred to as irresponsible, inhumane and destructive.
