Thirteen teenagers have today been arrested in an alleged bhang smoking den in Thogoto, Kikuyu Sub-County after police ambushed the den early on Monday morning.
Police had been tipped off by members of the public of the den which has been popular in the area due to drug abuse especially among teenagers.
Confirming the incident in his office, Kikuyu OCPD SSP Mutune Maweu said that members of the public led by area Nyumba Kumi community policing leaders tipped police officers of the illegal business that they suspect had been ongoing for months.
The police boss confirmed that out of the raid, police arrested thirteen teenagers aged between 13-19 who were smoking bhang inside the den.
He also said that the owner of the den escaped after being informed by unknown sources shortly before they arrived.
The OCPD said that they nabbed 84 rolls of bhang which were being sold inside the den.
He said that the suspect is said to be a middle-aged woman referred to as "Mama Arif" and police are hunting her down.
"Bhang smoking and peddling is illegal and anyone involved in any way is committing a crime. These teenagers; the youngest being thirteen, a class seven boy and also a nineteen-year-old boy who has just cleared form four will be arraigned in court later today for the offence," said Maweu.
