Reigning African champions Telkom began well the defense of their title by thrashing Yobe Desert Queens of Nigeria 5-0 in the Africa cup for club championships which kicked off Saturday in Accra, Ghana.
Audrey Omaido and Lucy Wangeci were among the scorers for the holders who are looking to conquer Africa for a record 10th time.
African hockey champions Telkom, who secured the national league title with matches to spare, begun well the defense of their continental crown by thrashing Nigeria’s Yobe Desert Queens 5-0 in Ghana.
Despite dominating the match from the get-go, Yobe Queens defense was tight solid in the first half of the game and was only breached once in the 12th minute.
The second half was a different story as Telkom scored four more goals to secure a morale boosting win on the opening day of the tournament.
Ghana’s Police Club defeated Kada Queens of Nigeria 4-1 in the other ladies encounter played Saturday.
