Ten first year students from Borabu constituency have a reason to smile after a top parliamentary aspirant cleared their four-year university fee following an assessment by the politician’s Foundation.
The ten were chosen from among the 20 successful aspirants, with Dr Kambi Foundation committee picking the most vulnerable.
Speaking on Wednesday at Menyenya Secondary School grounds during the issuance of the scholarships, Dr Nyandoro Kambi said the Foundation was keen to promote education and achieve its objectives of increasing the number of beneficiaries from the current 100 per year (partial scholarships) to at least 300 for higher education students.
He challenged beneficiaries to lift the name of the region high by being innovative to bring new ideas that will see the region develop economically.
“We have been issuing partial and full scholarships but this case was extraordinary. The Foundation will pay for their entire four years fee and we expect them to be innovative by coming up with new ideas that can develop our region,” Dr Kambi said.
He reiterated the importance of investing the CDF kitty in education and infrastructure to pave way for expeditious development by promoting business and knowledge in the area.
“CDF money should be used solely to improve infrastructure and education sector. We want good roads for easy transportation and knowledge for our children. As well-wishers, we will only top up what the CDF does,” he said.
He said the foundation could consider sponsoring successful students from the university to post graduate degrees to increase the number of students from the region registering in post graduate education.
