Ten governors from western Kenya have joined hands to rally their supporters to vote for National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
The governors Prof. Anyang Nyong’o (Kisumu), Cyprian Awiti (Homabay), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya), Okoth Obado (Migori), John Nyagarama (Nyamira), James Ongwae (Kisii), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Dr. Wilbur Otichilo (Vihiga), Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma), Sospeter Ojamong (Busia) said they will marshal a campaign to ensure the region votes for Raila as a block.
The governors who met at a Kisumu hotel agreed to raise funds to fund the campaigns ahead of the October 17 fresh presidential elections.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, Nyong’o appealed to their supporters to join the fundraising by sending money through the coalitions pay bill number to make the campaigns a success.
Nyong’o said fundraising for the presidential campaign was not illegal urging NASA supporters to chip in to make the dream of liberating the country a reality.
“We have not stolen National Youth Service money or embezzled public funds to use in the campaigns like our competitors. We are raising money through our supporters and ordinary Kenyans who believe in our course,” he said.
He added that the leaders from 13 counties in the region under the auspices of the Lake Region Development Block are in the process of setting up a bank.
