Ten students of Mokowe Secondary school in Lamu have been arrested for attempting to set the school on fire.
Lamu County Commissioner, Joseph Kanyiri confirmed the incident stating that there are two students who are on the run and are being looked for.
The suspects are from three and form four students and were found in possession of jerrycans filled with petroleum and matches.
The students were found by the police at around 11 pm just when they wanted to raze down the school.
“It is true. We have arrested ten students. Two are on the run but they are being sought. They must present themselves to the nearest police station,’’ said Kanyiri.
The school principle, Thaddeus Mugute stated that he had got some information from a number of students who informed him that the students were hatching the plot to burn down the school.
The students are currently being held at the Lamu police station and will be arraigned in court in the course of the day.
This is not the first incident involving student unrest in schools and Education CS, Fred Matiang’i has been asked on several occasions to explain the reason for the rampant incidences in the schools of late.
