A Kibera tenant at Laini Saba village, Mr. Samson Mamba who is a motorbike rider in Kibera on Monday evening slept outside due to delayed rent payment.
“I will not tolerate this lazy way of paying rent anymore. We agreed that everybody should have cleared paying rent and their electricity bills by the 7th of every month,” said the landlord as he locked the house door in the presence of Mr. Mamba.
As other tenants in the estate were watching the drama unfold, Mr. Mamba defended himself saying that he had delayed to pay rent due to the heavy rains that has hindered his business thus making it difficult for him save Kshs. 3, 500 to pay the rent for the month of October.
His pleas did not bear any fruits as the merciless landlord locked up the house using his own padlock and went with the keys saying that if he will not have cleared the rent payment by 12th of November, he will sell Mr. Mamba's household items to recover the rent bill.
Mr. Samson was left stranded not knowing where he would lay his head throughout the cold night which to add salt to injury was accompanied by a heavy downpour.
