Tenants of Raila village in Kibera have asked their landlords to fence the residential houses and construct security gates to make one entrance for the estates for security purposes.
The tenants said that the fencing will improve the security in the area and theft cases will be minimised through this act.
According to James Orenge, a tenant, landlords have refused to fence the living premises despite thieves entering the premises when tenants are not there and stealing their property.
“Despite the complaints we raise to the landlords of cases of insecurity, the landlords have not shown any efforts to try and do something about it. We are really suffering because of this,’’ said Jacob Miogo, another tenant.
“Last week someone came to the estate and stole clothes that were on the hanging lines, during the day. If landlords will just fence the estate well, theft cases will be minimised in the area,” said Catherine Omondi, another tenant.
She noted that during holidays, especially December, tenants fear going home to celebrate Christmas since they fear their property such as television, radios and other items will be stolen because the place is not secured.
The tenants further claimed they do not feel secure, especially during the nights since terrorists may attack them.
