Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi has asked tenants living in the county government houses in Starehe, Ziwani, Ofafa and Jamhuri estates to dialogue over their outstanding arrears.
This is in order to chart the way forward on how to clear the debt they owe the county government in form of rent.
The arrears were accrued after the tenants challenged in court the county government's decision to increase rent in the 2013/2014 financial year.
They, however, lost the case and the court directed that they clear all the outstanding arrears accrued since 2013. Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Wamwangi noted that the accrued arrears are huge and it could turn out to be a toll order for majority of the tenants.
"Here we need some dialogue to have things work out well without either parties feeling short-changed. The court case is now over and dialogue is what is required," Wamwangi said.
Wamwangi said that he met the residents on Sunday where they agreed that they would apply diplomacy to resolve the matter.
"We agreed that they won't resort to going out in the streets to demonstrate over the same. We can have a plan where for example they can clear the arrears in instalments agreeable to both parties and so on," said Wamwangi.
