Rachel Maina, the executive member in charge of land, housing and physical planning, also warned developers against renting their premises until they are approved by the National Construction Authority (NCA).

“Anyone undertaking construction without a valid registration certificate will face the law. Tenants should also be careful not to dwell in unfinished premises," she told our reporter.

She regretted that various developers ignore warnings from the institution which streamlines and regulates the construction industry and other bodies mandated to oversee constructions.

She, however, called upon developers to follow the law so as not to expose tenants to the danger of collapsed buildings.

NCA defines construction works as the construction of exterior installation, repair, maintenance, renewal, removal, renovation or demolition of any structure above or below the ground level.

Maina said the county government was working closely with the NCA to avert construction accidents.

“Officers working under my ministry are under instructions not to approve constructions which do not meet the required standards,” she revealed.
