Tenants of an apartment located within Weteithie estate in the outskirts of Thika town held a peaceful demonstration today to protest a burst sewer that had spilled its content into their water pipes.
The tenants carrying placards demanded an intervention in the area by the Public Health Officer after their own attempts to have the landlord fix the burst sewer failed.
They tenants say the water pipes lie just on top of a sewer line that burst early last week and its has been spewing its content into the water pipes ever since. They have expressed concern of the dangers of contracting dangerous diseases due to the contamination of their water.
The landlord fled when the angry demonstrators matched to his residence forcing the protestors to take to the Super- Highway where an Officer intercepted them to address their concerns.
Francis Mwaura, who is the Officer in charge of Production and Quality, inspected the sewer line that was spilling its content into pipes carrying drinking water into the households and immediately ordered for the disconnection of the water supply to the apartment, pending the arrest of the landlord.
The Public Health Officials rushed to the scene and collected water samples to take to the government chemist for analysis.
The fate of the tenants led by their spokesman was still unknown as the Public Health Officers considered evicting them and shuting down the apartments until further notice.
