On Thursday night, locals of Laini Saba near police post in Kibera slums were forced to spend a cold night outside after fire razed down several residential houses.

According to the residents, the fire broke at around 7 pm as most of the tenants had not returned home from work.

"The fire broke and spread very fast. We could not be able to save property", said Philip Mabuka a resident. 

He noted that the residents contained the fire using water as fire fighters from Nairobi county did not respond to calls.  

"We are now left homeless. All our property has been burnt down by fire. We call upon our leaders to intervene and help us to relocate", said Janet Omondi.
