Workers at Kimbimbi matatu stage in Kirinyaga County woke up to a rude awakening on Monday after a vendor discovered seven live ammunition lying in the market.
The vendor found the live bullets after he stumbled on the bag in which they had been stored.
“I was courageous enough to find out what was inside and even held one. I held it out and people told me it was a bullet,” said the vendor.
The County Administration Police Commander Daudi Mohammed believe that the ammunition belonged to a hunted gang in the area.
Mohammed said they suspected a gang they have been hunting down for four weeks had hidden the bullets in the market.
“With the aid of fingerprints we shall continue with the search,” said Mohammed.
This has created tension without the area as thousands of residents gathered around the market to get a first-hand sight of the ammunition.
The police say they are hunting down the gang and still continuing with investigations.
