At least six people have been confirmed dead and two others sustained serious injuries following suspected Al Shabaab attack in Banisa Sub-County, Mandera.
The victims, Mr. Adan Ali, 40, and his nine-year-old son Abdullahi Adan are currently undergoing treatment at the Mandera County Referral Hospital after sustaining injuries following the terror-related incident.
Confirming the incident, Banisa Deputy County Commissioner Mathias Chisambo said that the militiamen from the Garre clan attacked the village and killed five persons from the Degodia clan, adding that it is not clear how the sixth person was killed.
The commissioner also said that the police are pursuing the suspected killers “We are in process of knowing who killed the sixth person on the road. It is not clear if it by those Garre militias returning after attacking Choroqo Village,” Mr. Chisambo said.
He further said that the killers are well-known and they are Kenyans. Guba MCA Jimale Abdi Hassan condemned the act and urged the residents to remain peaceful as the police investigate the matter.
The Garre and Degodia clans had agreed to remain peaceful in 2013 after a long period of clashes before the Tuesday incident.
Residents are now living in fear as they ponder of what is likely to happen to them in the coming days.
