A police officer was  Wednesday morning shot dead and his G3 rifle taken away by gunmen in Shika Adabu area in Likoni County.

The two suspects were riding a motorbike.

The Officer was guarding a lorry which was distributing wholesale goods in one of the shops in the area when the assailants ambushed him and sprayed him with bullets killing him on the spot.

The motive of the crime has not yet been established.

Security has been beefed up in the area and the search for the gunmen has been launched.

Members of the public have been asked by security officers to be alert.
