Tension is looming in Woodley Estate in Nairobi county after a welfare organization raised an alarm over what it alleged is a plan by the Nairobi County government to make mass eviction of residents from a section of the estate.
Woodley Residents Welfare Society on Sunday claimed that approximately 27 houses have been illegally allocated to very close relatives and associates of senior city hall officials under unclear circumstances.
“Several legitimate and long-sitting tenants in the Woodley Estate are under threat of impending evictions by Governor Evans Kidero and other senior county officials from the Housing and Legal departments. Governor Kidero has in the past has managed to get away scot-free even after illegally evicting and allocating several houses to his close associates,” the chair of the association Sam Gachago revealed.
According to a section of Woodley residents, two houses have already been illegally allocated to governor Kidero’s cronies. They are now calling for Kidero to stay away from the dirty deals, saying they will oppose such plans by all means.
“Kidero should refrain from these illegal plans which have been designed to disenfranchise several long-standing residents of Woodley estate. Any attempts to do so will be resisted at all cost,” Gachago further disclosed.
