Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati, on Wednesday stormed out of a plenary meeting, reveals THE Saturday Standard.
Internal rebellions are rocking the electoral body with sources saying that Chebukati is fighting to stamp his authority with at least four commissioners giving him headache.
In what was supposed to be a crucial meeting following Raila Odinga’s decision to withdraw from the polls, Chebukati is said to have suggested having October 26th elections cancelled to pave way for a fresh elections.
And with resistance from six other commissioners, a furious Chebukati is said to have walked out of the meeting then followed by Commissioners Roselyn Akombe and Margret Mwachanya.
“Looks like the chairman was frustrated and did not want to own the decision of the plenary,” a source told the Standard.
When Contacted, Chebukati declined to comment saying:” I do not want to comment, you are reading too much.”
The incident explains why the communication on IEBC’s decision to include all presidential candidates on August polls in the repeat election was not signed by the chairman.
It is rumoured that Chebukati has lost control over the commission with four commissioners said to be opposing most of his suggestions, thus making it difficult for him to make his way.
