As the clock ticks closer to the annual Madaraka Day celebrations, tension is proportionately building up in Kibera as youth vow to defy orders by the Interior CS, Joseph Nkaissery.

Some youth from Olympic area said Uhuru Park is a must-go venue for them on Wednesday.

"Raila has said the rally will happen, I don't see a reason why I should not attend," said Duncan Ochieng', a resident of the area.

When asked whether they were aware of orders from Nkaissery barring them from attending the Cord rally, the youth faulted the CS for denying them their freedoms of association and expression.

The elder residents in the slums are worried for their safety given the fact that Kibera was hard hit by the anti-IEBC demonstrations in the past two weeks. The slum dwellers fear that the government might send security officers into the area prior to Madaraka Day in what they say might raise collision with local youth who are Raila's die hard supporters.

The government, through the Interior Ministry, has remained firm that Madaraka Day celebrations shall only be held in Nakuru and will be presided over by President Kenyatta.
