Former Meru Governor Peter Munya is facing rejection in the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition from established ODM heavyweights. After losing the Meru seat to Jubilee’s Kiraitu Murungi, Mr Munya decamped to NASA, and was immediately made a co-principal. This move was not received well in the coalition, with many leaders openly showing hostility to the former Council of Governor’s chairman. The ODM leaders argue that since Munya and his PNU party supported President Uhuru Kenyatta for many years, he adds no value in NASA, with many of his followers expected to back the re-election of the president.Led by Malinda MP Aisha Jumwa, the ODM members said there were other politicians within who deserved to be made NASA principals.“Governor (Amason) Kingi has delivered 100%. Joho as well. He sacrificed and delivered across the country. We have been left wondering how someone can come in today and be made a principal,” Juma said, as quoted by Daily Nation. “All I’m asking is, do we require parties without numbers, without any value to the opposition to join us and those who have worked and sacrificed from the beginning be left out? When Kingi was working, others were in Jubilee, today they have come and have been made principals,” she added. The Coast leaders say they only recognise four principals in NASA, and now want one of their own to be made a principal.“The only principals we recognize are Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula. We want one of our leaders from the Coast region — either Joho or Kingi — to be made a principal. Munya adds no value to NASA, especially after the results we saw from Meru County,” she said. Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, who was made a principal after joining NASA, has joined Jubilee. Despite campaigning for NASA in his county, Rala performed very poorly.
