A terror suspect, Rashid Sultan, was on Wednesday shot dead during a police raid in Majengo.

The suspect, who is said to have been armed, reportedly blocked police from accessing two houses believed to be used for recruitment and plotting terror attacks.

Abdullaziz Ali, who hails from Majengo, was nabbed during the raid alongside two other suspects.

Ali has a pending court case where he is facing attempted murder and terror-related charges.

"Security has been heightened to prevent any attack by the al-Shabaab militants,” said Coast Regional Commander Francis Wanjohi.

A police officer who was shot during the shootout was taken to Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa for specialised treatment.

According to The Star, the police recovered a Pistol, 15 bullets, 6 mobile phones, a laptop, jihadist literature, 18 photocopies of Identity cards and 15 passport size photographs of youths believed to have been recruited into the al-Shabaab terror group.
