Two terror suspects have been killed in Kisauni, Mombasa County.
Confirming the Thursday incident, Kisauni Deputy OCPD Walter Abondo said the two were killed following a police raid in Junda area, Kisauni Constituency.
The suspects, Salim Hanjary Benzimba and Kibwana Ahmed Abdallah alias Rajab, are said to have opened fire, before they were gunned down after police overpowered them.
“The two were members of the al-Shabaab terrorist group and were suspected to have been planning to carry out attacks in Mombasa. We raided their house following a tip off from members of the public,” said Abondo.
However, a third suspect, Ishamail Shoshi, who is a fugitive wanted over alleged engagement in terror activities, managed to escape.
Abondo said police recovered three grenades and several explosive materials, which they suspect were being used to make Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).
He added that police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who managed to escape.
The OCPD further urged residents to be vigilant and assist police officers by reporting any suspects.
