The Tetanus vaccine has raised the alarm in Thika Sub County as various leaders oppose the campaign to immunise women. The immunisation campaign which kicked off several weeks ago was introduced in Thika Sub-County but since then it has faced opposition from various parties among them the Catholic Church. St Patrick’s Catholic Church father in charge Simon Warari has joined hands with catholic leaders to condemn the campaign. He says the campaign raises eyebrows in the community. Speaking in his parish office, Warari said: “If the immunisation was genuine, why are men secluded from the act yet they are also at a risk of the infection? If the government wanted to protect the public from the tetanus infection, men should also be immunised and there should be no age bracket where women between 14-49 years are immunised.” Dr Andrew Toro, medical superintendent at Thika Level five said that there is very poor turnout of residents at the hospital for the vaccination. The doctor said that residents have been asking questions whether the government might be using the opportunity to subject women to family planning that last for four years. This controversial issue has resulted in low turnout of women in Kiambu County, Thika being the most affected region.
