Ngewa MCA Karungo Wa Thang’wa wants security personnel to adhere to the law and stop using force on suspected brewers.

Addressing the public at Giathieko Location in Ngewa on Monday, the MCA said that the police leading the crackdown on illicit liquor in Kiambu and other counties are not justified to use force in their crackdown.

While supporting the crackdown on illicit brews, Thang’wa said that use of force and destruction of property amounts to violation human rights.

“The police should be humane and consider human rights as they crackdown on illicit brewers,” he said.

He also asked the police to protect people’s businesses against looting saying that the recent destruction of property in Thika and Gatundu over brew claims is uncalled for.

The MCA said that illicit brews have rendered many youths in the ward irresponsible since many are allegedly trapped in the brews and have no interest in development.

He said that women are in desperation as they watch their sons and husbands wasted by illicit brews.

Thang’wa asked the youths to shun alcohol and be part of development in the area. He pledged his support to help addicted youths recover from the effects of alcohol.

He also called on the government to establish rehab centres for addicted youths saying such youths must be helped to recover and take part in developing the society.
