Thang’wa asserts that the county still needs other basic facilities that will benefit the common mwananchi instead of spending money on expensive cars.

“We are still receiving complaints of bad roads from those who elected us. Our hospitals are still understaffed. Roads should be constructed first and I even wonder which roads these vehicles will be using,” he said.

Thang’wa, who  was speaking on Monday in Ngewa in Githunguri Sub County noted that some MCAs supported the passing of the motion on grounds of greed and fear of being kicked out of the parties as some of them used the back door to embark on politics.

He said: “If we chose to drive expensive cars, bought and maintained by the tax payers’ money, we will have betrayed Wanjiku who elected us to spearhead development and ensure good services to the constituents.”

“Other MCAs have been bought and are simply afraid of losing their seats. They are only interested in enriching themselves and serving the leader who got them into these dirty politics,” Karungo said.

The bill that was seeking to buy vehicles for all the 60 wards across the entire county was passed in the assembly On Monday giving the county a green light to set aside funds for this undertaking.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo had requested the Kiambu assembly, through a memorandum, to approve the purchase of 72 vehicles at the cost of Sh290 million which means the roads department will be short by almost the same amount.

Kiambu has 60 elected members, 27 nominated ones and it would have taken 58 members to prevent the proposal from passing.
