The Church has been hailed for the role it played during this year's electioneering period.

Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago says it's through prayers from the church leaders and their faithful that the county and the country at large had a peaceful election.

Addressing the faithful at A.I.C Ngenyilel church in Kimumu on Sunday, Mandago challenged the church to continue praying for the country as Kenyans prepare to usher in 2018.

"We have always been leaders that believe in God and I know your prayers yield peace that we had in this county and across the country during the election period and I ask that you keep praying for the country and its leadership without ceasing," Mandago said.

The governor who as accompanied by his wife Lucy, also asked the faithful to remember the less fortunate in society during this festive season.

"As you celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, don't forget the needy in the community. Share the love just like God loved us to an extent of sending Jesus to be sacrificed in our place," he said.

On his way out of the church, Mandago delivered Christmas gifts to the faithful ranging from sodas, ice cream, vegetables among others.
