Kibera farmers on Tuesday thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for acknowledging farmers in his Mashujaa Day speech.

In his speech at Nyayo Stadium, Uhuru said he appreciates farmers who have worked hard to boost the country's economy.

On the same note, the farmers have vowed to put in more energy to boost the economy of Kibera and the nation at large.

"We are very happy after the President honoured our efforts. We will work even harder to challenge him to visit Kibera," said Edmond Mugita who has a sukuma wiki and spinach farm.

He said farmers should always be valued.

"We face a lot of challenges for example theft whereby people come at night and steal our vegetables," added Mugita.

Vitallis Mwokora said he has been rearing chicken for two decades but has never seen a President who acknowledges small scale farmers.

He said his biggest challenge is when the chicken fall sick.

He challenged the government to set up a poultry centre in Kibera so that it can attract many people to venture into the activity.

"It is a good way to create employment for the youths in Kibera,’’ said Mwokora.
