Kisii Senator Chris Obure has found himself in a defensive position following his highly publicised Omogusii unity forums that saw him lead several other leaders from the county to State House, Nairobi for discussions with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mr Obure, the pioneer of the infamous Otamba declaration, has been pushing for the Omogusii unity, calling for the formation of a single party that could articulate the agenda of the Abagusii people.
On Sunday, Nyamira County Assembly Majority Leader Laban Masira accused the Kisii Senator of plotting to ‘auction’ the community to the Jubilee party.
“I am not opposing the Omogusii unity but we want people to be honest by involving all community leaders to chart the best way forward. Senator Obure and team are only advancing their selfish interests in the name of Omogusii unity,” he said.
“As a community, we are not for sale and he must know that. He can’t go to State House with some few egocentric people and purport to be representing us. We will resist any attempts to sell us to the incompetent Jubilee government,” he added.
But in a quicker rejoinder, Obure defended the Otamba declaration saying it was destined to succeed, and urged critics to join forces for the sake of the community.
“I will not retire from politics until I unite the community. I haven’t auctioned anyone rather; we are advancing a common agenda. It’s time that they joined the force for the sake of unity,” he said.
