Road deaths in Kenya still remains a big challenge to the country and especially in the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Most accidents occur from Salgaa to Sachagwan which is a stretch of approximately 20 KM.
Recently, a horrifying accident on the same road claimed the lives of over 30 Kenyans at Migaa area where a bus collided with a trailer.
The stretch is also termed as a blackspot due to the high number of deaths which occur there.
Here are four things that are believed to be contributing to the accidents along the stretch.
1. Black power
Black power is associated with accidents in the stretch basing that two Kalejin chiefs who had been cursed by the famous Koitalel arap Samoei for betraying him.
They died on the spot and so their spirits hover in the area seeking for revenge.
Most people call for spiritual leaders to cleanse the stretch.
2. Over speeding
Most drivers opt to drive vehicles on a free gear as a way of saving fuel on the smooth road increasing chances of accidents.
3. Ignorance of road rules.
Most drivers ignore road signs on the road like passing on the wrong lanes, exceeding the speed limits required or driving while drunk.
4. Fatigue
The vehicles commonly using the road are long distance vehicles, and so fatigue which causes sleep may be leading to the accidents since most vehicles have only one driver.
