It’s lovely how Adam was stunned by Eve’s beauty when the Lord woke him up and opened his eyes to see Eve, the suitable companion that the Lord had made for him. So many couples are a living testimony of what God can do, for a man and a woman that He himself, brings together, even in the world today.
When the time came for Isaac to get a wife, his father, Abraham, called his oldest servant who was in charge of everything he had, and made him make a vow in the name of the Lord, that he would find Isaac a good wife, amongst Abraham’s people, in his native country. The servant set on a journey back to Abraham’s native land just to find his son a wife. Abraham’s servant observed Rebecca from a distance and observed how she did things before he put the nose ring and bracelets on her.
Have you ever wondered what your people will say of you to your spouse? Laban, Rebecca’s brother, took the initiative to welcome Abraham’s servant. What would your family say about you? Would they be jovial of your going or would they, like Rebecca’s family, suggest that you stay a few more days? This also shows the importance of meeting your spouse’s family and those who may know him/her.
In a relationship where there is love and respect amongst the people involved, it is easy to submit to each other. Men are meant to be the head of the family and women are meant to submit to them, just as the church submits itself to Christ. Husbands are meant to love their wives just as Christ loved the church and gave His life for it. Generally, they are supposed to submit to each other in love.
