Residents are already making milestones from the waters of River Tana which has visibly transformed the region into a grand valley of investment opportunities.

Individuals and youth groups are now engaging in full-time commercial mixed farming.

With the Garissa Valley stretching right from Fafi Constituency extending all through Garissa Township and some parts of Lagdera, a large field is availed with a beehive of farm activities.

It is estimated that Garissa County has a total of 44,100 acres of productive land along Tana River Basin. But currently, only 12 percent of the entire land along the river basin is under irrigation, mainly of raising horticultural crops as bananas, mangoes, tomatoes, watermelons, onions, pawpaws, and chilies.

The North Eastern County not only exports fruits and vegetables to the larger parts of Kenya, but also to neighbouring Ethiopia and Somalia.

In addition to an agriculturally favourable climate and productive soils, a massive infrastructural development has been initiated in the entire Tana Basin by local and foreign NGOs, technical co-operation arms of development partners and the government.
