President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party started member recruitment drive by selling smart cards to Kenyans in January this year.
The party, launched on September 10, 2016, has sold at least seven million cards since the launch of the exercise.
Each Jubilee smart card costs Sh20.
This brings the total amount of money the party has made to Sh140 million!
Jubilee’s Head of Secretariat Raphael Tuju says the party has ordered an extra 2.5 million cards.
The smart cards are expected to be available from March 23.
If all of them are sold at Sh20, the party will mint another Sh50 million from the sales.
"The cards are selling like hot cakes but we have placed an order and by March 23 we will have more cards for our members. We ran out of the smart cards due to high demand," Tuju said on Thursday.
The party will hold its primaries in April.
Political aspirants have been flocking the party headquarters at Pangani in Nairobi and many have been leaving disappointed after failing to get the cards.
