On April 9 this year, residents of Kadianga village in Nyakach constituency woke up to a bizarre incident.

The grave of Joyce Auma, daughter to Mr Michael Okello from the village had been dug up and the body taken. Her clothes and coffin had been left behind.

The body, which had been buried for more than two years got stolen for unknown reasons.

In 2015, residents of Kouko village, in Homa Bay County also woke up to what they termed as witchcraft after realizing that the body of an elderly woman, the late Hellena Anyango had disappeared from her grave.

The body exhumers had taken her body leaving behind her clothes and coffin. This wasn’t the first incident to happen among the people of this county as such had happened before.

In connection with such incidences, Kennedy Okoko, West Kagan chief confirmed that a villager had once been found exhuming a body. It is believed he sells dead people’s bones to strangers.

"He was seen walking around the village with strangers. We believe he sells the bones. He has been pleading with residents to allow him dig up bodies for a fee," Mr Okoko said as quoted by the Nation.
