Wanjiru made her name as the first preacher to ever successfully contest and win a political seat.

The Jesus Is Alive Ministries bishop first contested for political office in the 2007 general election.

She won the Starehe Parliamentary seat on Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.

Bishop Wanjiru was also appointed Housing Permanent Secretary in the grand coalition government in 2008.

The bishop successfully served Starehe residents as she continued with her ministry.

In 2013, Wanjiru declared interest for the Nairobi governor seat.

Armed with her political experience as MP and Bishop, Wanjiru lobbied for the Orange party ticket.

She however faced serious hurdles as her academic qualifications were questioned.

Bishop Wanjiru's Theology certificate was questioned with claims that she was not academically fit to contest for the Nairobi governor seat.

It was alleged that her two degree certificates from the United Graduate College Seminary International and Vineyard Bible College were not authentic and not recognized.

She would however defend her academic qualification saying that she was fit to contest for governor seat.

The Jesus Is Alive Bishop lost the seat.

She opted to contest for the Nairobi senatorial seat losing out to Mike Sonko in the 2013 general election.

It is the questioning of her academic papers that saw the former Starehe MP enroll for Bachelor's Degree in Development studies at the St Pauls University.

The former MP graduated in 2015 and unsuccessfully vied for the Nairobi governor seat in 2017.

Wanjiru lost in the Jubilee Party nominations to the now governor Mike Sonko.

The Bishop has since remained politically silent as the 2022 succession debates take center stage.

There are claims that Wanjiru would bid for the Nairobi governor seat in 2022.
