Embattled IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati may have after all resigned last Saturday, claims city lawyer Nelson Havi.

A visibly troubled Chebukati on Tuesday ruled out possibility of holding free and fair polls on October 26th, adding that he had invited all political players for a round table meeting to solve the stalemate.

And Havi, a constitutional lawyer, says he was privy to Chebukati’s planned resignation only for ‘external’ forces to threaten him.

“I am aware that Chebukati was set to resign on Saturday but he was overwhelmed by some external forces,” said Havi in one of his tweet.

He further claimed:” He is not ready to hold shambolic elections but they are forcing him. However, I am convinced that he won’t be part of the mockery.”

Already one commissioner, Roselyn Akombe, has bolted out of the commission citing deep divisions within the team, which she claims has been infiltrated by external forces.

But in his own account, Chebukati ruled out resignation adding that he is committed to ensure the country survives the political crisis.
