Not many people can claim the singular honour of having seen Airforce One take to the skies, not in a recorded footage but in reality, with their naked eyes.

Even for those who have had that singular honour, that chance does not come all that too often.

It is a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle.

I never thought that I would be able to see that mind-blowing piece of aerospace engineering in my lifetime but then fate intervened.

It was on a Sunday on the final day of Obama's visit to Kenya at Githurai.

I had not known then that Githurai offers a mind-blowing vantage point for anyone wishing to see planes landing and those taking off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

''We can be able to see the plane take to the skies if we face JKIA,'' someone in the crowd that had gathered to watch the Obama motorcade hurtle towards Kenyatta University along Thika Super Highway said.

Obama had just shaken hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta and was walking in his confident gait towards the waiting Airforce One with its engine revving furiously.

We stopped watching the big screen streaming Obama's breathtaking departure and turned our faces toward JKIA.

And then the unbelievable happened!

The massive plane took to the skies in a diagonal posture, its nose up right before my eyes.

Adrenaline in my body started pumping as I watched the historic spectacle unfolding right before my eyes, Airforce One changing altitude with the world's most powerful man on board in all its majestic glory.

It was quite a spectacle!

Magical!
