A story is told of how departed politician and first Vice President of the nation Jaramogi Oginga Odinga caused trouble in school and headache to teachers during his schooling days.
As a student at Maseno School between 1929 and 1934, Oginga went from trouble to trouble, resulting to bad blood between himself and the then school Principal Carey Francis, a white man.
He took the character to the next level upon his promotion to a teacher, in the same institution, criss crossing paths with Carey again, this time his boss.
At one point, he was busted with women in his quarters but when instructed to send them away or let them spend the night in the married quarters, he defied the Master of African Quarters, leading to another encounter with the now tiring Carey.
In another instance and episode of his mischief, Jaramogi dropped his English Adonijah name, maintaining that he will henceforth rely on his African names, a move that was obviously opposed by Carey who was a missionary.
This time, the principal went on a rant at the pulpit, chastising men who thought they could only be ideal by wearing suits, hats and walking sticks, a shot aimed at Odinga who was the only one with such style in the school.
