Mombasa politics have been revolving around Governor Hassan Joho over the past five years since former Mvita MP Najib Balala exited the local political scene.
Immediately after winning the Mombasa Governor seat in 2013, a fallout emerged between him (Joho) and the then veteran Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima, a relationship that has never been repaired since.
Mwahima had accused Joho of not honoring a pre-election deal between them.
According to the agreement that the two had struck, Joho was to allocate a slot for the County Executive to Likoni.
Further, a member from Likoni had to be nominated to the County Assembly, an agreement that was never honored.
Keen to bring the two political heavyweights together, Mombasa MPs organised a public meeting in Likoni in 2015, February.
And when his time to speak arrived, Joho did not hesitate to plead with Mwahima to end the feuding for the sake of development.
"Hon Mwahima is like my father and I know he loves me as his son. I appeal to him to announce today to all and sundry here that he has reconciled with me because the county government intends to start major projects in Likoni and I want to work closely with him," said Joho as quoted by the Standard.
However, Mwahima could take none of it as he insisted that Joho had shortchanged the constituency.
The two are currently sworn 'political enemies' and Joho is said to have had to ensure that Mwahima who was defending his seat during the August 8 poll lost it.
