On January 12, 2017, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho risked drove all the way from Mombasa to Nairobi without security.
The incident came after his security detail was allegedly withdrawn. The governor, however, said that he does not fear anyone or anything because Allah is his protector.
“I believe in protection from God. No one can cause my death if my day to meet my maker has not arrived,” he said.
Joho has been very vocal on matters of national interest. The county boss hit headlines on several occasions for launching endless attacks against President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto during his first term in office.
Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi accused the Jubilee regime of sidelining Coastal residents.
The duo claimed that the current regime has not done much to protect the residents of the region. The two even hinted at pushing for the secession of the Coastal region.
They demanded that the government responds to their grievances or they will cut themselves away from Kenya. Joho, also ODM Deputy Leader, has expressed interest in the nation’s top seat.
He is banking on the support of Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga to ascend to power when that time comes.
