Former Gichugu MP Martha Karua and Deputy President William Ruto don’t enjoy cordial political relationships.
The two politicians relationship has remained tense over the years. It speculated that Karua is among Mt Kenya politicians who are not ready to support DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
In the run to 2017 general election, Karua declined to merge her NARC Kenya Party with Jubilee.
Karua criticized pressure from certain forces to have her party merge with Jubilee saying that independence of parties must be respected.
The former Gichugu MP has severally criticised the Jubilee administration often disagreeing with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Karua and DP Ruto's tense political relationship are said to have started a long time ago.
In February 2009, Karua while serving as Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister and DP Ruto as Agriculture Minister hit headlines after they allegedly exchanged ‘bitter words’ during a cabinet meeting.
It said that the two politicians clashed at the cabinet meeting chaired by the then president Mwai Kibaki. The two leaders exchanged bitter words as Kibaki and other ministers helplessly watched. Karua and DP Ruto were exchanging bitter words over the maize scandal that had hit Ruto’s Agriculture ministry. DP Ruto was later sacked as Agriculture Minister over the alleged maize scandal.
