Former Gichugu MP Martha Karua is known as a no-nonsense politician.
Karua has established her name in the political circles and is loved and hated in equal measures.
The former legislator is has served in the country’s top leadership often rubbing shoulders with the political bigwigs in her duties.
Karua has also never been afraid of speaking her mind out and often criticized people and even the government on various issues. The former MP is also not new to political controversies.
In 2009, Karua who had been appointed as Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister shocked many including former president Mwai Kibaki when she resigned.
Karua tendered her resignation citing frustrations from certain forces in discharging her duties.
The former MP’s resignation came days after the then president Mwai Kibaki had appointed Judges.
It later emerged that Karua resigned because Kibaki had appointed judges without her knowledge.
Efforts by several politicians among them former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to convince Karua to take back the job failed.
After her shocking resignation, Karua concentrated on her NARC Kenya party activities and unsuccessfully contested for the presidential seat in the 2013 general election.
