Very less is known about National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna's childhood.
The leader was born and grew up in Apondo, Nyando constituency in Kano Plains, Kisumu county, where he once almost lost his life while herding cattle in the fields.
In his book 'Peeling Back The Mask' published in 2012, the embattled leader narrated of the day when an accident happened as he was herding alongside one of his friends near River Nyando.
According to Miguna, his friend, Ouma Nyakongo who had nicknamed himself 'John Kirk' wanted to curve himself a club from a fig tree and had brought with him a sharp machete to accomplish the job.
Ouma climbed up the fig tree and asked Miguna to hold down a branch as he cut.
Unfortunately, when he ultimately managed to chop the branch, the machete slipped and landed on Miguna's forehead.
The cut was very bad. The two attempted to hide the injury, after Ouma pleaded with Miguna to keep it a secret, but it soon worsened and got swollen to an extent that his sister thought his brain was coming out.
He got dizzy and soon collapsed, only to wake up at the New Nyanza General Hospital (popularly known as Russia) moments later.
This explains the source of the fairly large scar on the firebrand leader's forehead, which he prefers to keep hidden under his signature Islamic cap.
