A detailed report by Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission established critical details hat would have been used to resolve the controversial murder of Robert Ouko.
Just two weeks to his murder, the former Foreign Affairs Minister was one of delegates in president Daniel Moi's January 29th visit to Washington DC.
Witnesses who appeared on TJRC said Ouko had managed to meet President George Herbert Bush in absence of the Kenyan delegation, a move that irked Moi's team.
"Since it was considered as a private visit, Moi was unable to get an audience with the US president. Ouko was however priviledge to meet Bush and US representatives as Capitol Hill,' a source said.
The report says Malacki Odenyo, Director of Administration for Foreign Affairs, Moi learnt about the private meeting between the two and was not happy.
"The meeting caused the rift between Ouko and powerful minister Nicholas Biwott. The powerful minister would later on sarcastically refer Ouko as Mr. President," states the report.
Another unnamed witness said Ouko would later prevail upon the US authorities who would later allow Moi to meet President Bush.
"When Bush met Moi, the situation was ugly. Moi was angered and and even slapped Ouko in front of the host president, accusing him of embarrassment," said the witness.
Back at home, the state could conspire and have the minister killed two weeks after the visit, with sources directly implicating Biwott in the gruesome murder.
The murder caused jitters among the opposition operatives leading to the famous probe by Scotland Yard, whose findings are yet to be made public.
