His actions, Kalonzo Musyoka had warned, would dismantle NASA coalition,  which has since limped due to internal wrangles.

"I urge my good Senior counsel not to take the position. He should not be the one who will go to historical books for having killed Nasa," Kalonzo had said.

Despite criticism by Wetangula that Odinga did nothing to save his co-principal, a high ranking ODM official however claims the contrary.

A day to the planned ouster,  the official said, Orengo declined Raila's plea to drop the idea.

"He (Raila) called Orengo but the senator refused to back down. He insisted the ouster was in accordance with the law.

"Actually, he mobilised senators to boycott Raila's planned meeting to save Wetangula. He even went ahead to ask Raila to allow senators make their choice," said the official, who declined to be named.

At several rallies in Western Kenya after his ouster, Wetangula publicly admitted that Senators humiliated him in Raila's absence.

Even though he's celebrated as a key adviser to Raila, Orengo could be paying price for defying his boss, with his absence from recent handshake between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila leaving many questioned unanswered.
