Wherever he goes, Odinga is always met with huge crowds who resonate with his political beliefs and aspirations.

But as Odinga came to learn one day in 2014, not everybody enjoys seeing him around.

Raila Odinga, leader of the then Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) was leading CORD's Okoa Kenya rally at the Kinango market in Kwale County.

The rally was organized to drum up support for constitutional amendments.

The rally was briefly interrupted when a man stormed the meeting and caned Odinga and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya with a walking stick.

Odinga, Mvurya, and other leaders among them then Kwale Senator the late Juma Boy, Hassan Omar, Agnes Zani, James Orengo, Johnstone Muthama and Hassan Mwanyoa Zulekha Juma, were dancing when the drama started.

The old man identified as Lengo Mdzomba managed to sneak among the dancers and hit both Raila and Mvurya twice with the stick before bodyguards overpowered him.

He later claimed that he canned the two after seeing Odinga and Mvurya dance with his wife.

The man was arrested, charged and charges against him withdrawn after Odinga and Mvurya forgave him.
