In the results released by defunct ECK, Raila led in all Gusii constituencies albeit narrowly, beating president Mwai Kibaki in the hostly contested polls.

Since then, Raila has often recalled the incident in his subsequent rallies at the border town and has often celebrated the fall of Nyachae, who he blamed for the ugly incident.
