It was on this day that residents of Kinango, Kwale were treated to a rare spectacle.

During a rally by the then Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) led by Raila, an elderly man emerged from the crowd with a huge cain and whipped Raila on the back.

Raila was whipped as he was busy engaging ‘Segenya’ dancers in a jig.

The elderly man also turned the cane towards governor Mvurya before being whisked off by security officials.

A disturbed Raila in a video was seen angrily looking at the man as he (the man) was whisked away.

Police officers later established that the elderly man was mentally unstable.

Unconfirmed reports went on that the man was unhappy because his wife was dancing suggestively with the former Prime Minister.

Reports also indicated that the man was dancing before he lost balance and accidentally whipped Raila.

Raila later forgave the man and asked the police not prescribe charges against him.

The incident made Raila’s aides be cautious during campaigns to the 2013 general election where the former prime minister lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
